Comprehensive
Neuropsychological Assessments

I believe in a holistic approach to understanding a child. In addition to a comprehensive battery of assessments that is developed based upon each child’s unique presentation, I gather information from parents, teachers, BCBAs, and/or therapists to better understand how each child performs outside of the testing room. Additional information from IEPs, 504 Plans, and private and school-based assessments is integrated to further enrich the meaning and conceptualization of assessment data. From these rich sources of information, I am able to compile and provide detailed, specific, and comprehensive recommendations to facilitate the development of nurturing and effective programming at home, school, and in the community.

IEP Team Meetings &
Educational Consultation

The delivery of a neuropsychological report is often just the beginning of the consultation process for many families. In this regard, I am frequently asked to attend IEP meetings in order to discuss the results of my neuropsychological assessments, answer questions posed by the team, and advocate for my recommendations. I work closely with families and/or advocates to provide an effective, productive synopsis.

Educational consultation is sometimes requested by families in lieu of neuropsychological assessment. In this context, parents typically have a targeted question, an area of concern, or are requesting review of IEP services in the context of recent school-based or outside assessments provided by a provider other than myself. This intervention may also serve as a venue by which to determine if additional assessment is required.

School Observations &
Program Evaluations

A school observation is a very helpful adjunct to understanding how a child is performing across different settings. Either a school district or a child’s parent may request this intervention. Regardless of the referral source, a school observation provides insight into a child’s level of functioning in and outside of the classroom, generates information as to the quality of the child’s social/peer interactions, and identifies areas of programmatic strength and vulnerability. A program evaluation enables me to observe and assess the appropriateness of fit between a child’s needs and program being proposed by a school district. This may include a program within a public school setting or a substantially separate out-placement.

Mediation &
Legal Consultation

There are times when families and school districts are unable to come to an agreement regarding programming needs and IEP services. Some families seek to resolve this impasse by means of mediation or by filing for due process through the Board of Special Education Appeals (BSEA). These proceedings typically require the expertise of an advocate or attorney to guide the family through the process. In this context, I may be asked by the advocate or attorney to provide expert input as regards the child’s assessment, neurocognitive profile, and programming needs.
